Actually I Thought This Was A FOOD BLOG???

Ok, here I am, on a Sunday afternoon, lazy to go for a run and blogging here.. First and foremost, our Hong Kong trip is over!!! We should move on with our lives and on to other stuff, such as realising the true purpose of this blog, which is to help us stay in contact and recommend good makan. Since we will be tasting cookhouse food on weekdays in a few months' time, I think we should go about trying all sorts of food and providing proper reviews for hawker and restaurant food alike. Then maybe, some bugger will come along and spread the word to his or her friends, and our blog will be famous, and we can earn lots of money through online advertising or endorsements. AND THEN I'LL HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO SET UP MY ZAIBATSU. haha. =)

We watched 10,000 BC yesterday and now I know why it's like a kiddy version of Apocalypto. I learnt an age-old, tried-and-tested pick-up line from the show: "You see that star, the one that shines the brightest and never moves? It is like my love for you.. It will never go away." Something along those lines la, but.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Now I don't know what to blog about, because work is just damn boring. 2 requests from me. 1. Please stop talking about Hong Kong. 2. Please stop posting unglam pictures of me. Yeo, I know we're somehow fated to be together but apparently I do not have mutual feelings towards you. la. So. People. Please. Post.

Where have all the posts gone?

Woah.... I'm back from the magical land of Geisha and Geishee, whatever that is... Well, I have to tell you I had a blast, a very cold blast! I bet if you all remember how cold it was in Hong Kong at night? Oh boy... It was that temperature every DAY in japan... Can you even imagine the nights?

Well, we're here for the HONG KONG TRIP first and foremost, so lets get on to it shall we?

So, SOMEONE was SOOOOOOOOO typically KIASU Singaporean... Even the train also want to take pictures... Sometimes we wonder if he's running on all cylinders or if he's short of a few... Maybe even more... Yea well. Even before the train pulled up at the DisneyLand Station, SOMEONE was already bouncing at the door, face pressed up to the glass eager to run out and embarass us all. The good news is that, we tried our hardest to disassociate ourselves with him. The bad news? It didn't work

Yea well. Even as we were riding up the escalator, NOT EVEN OUT OF THE STATION YET, SOMEONE kept asking us "Aren't you soooooo Excited" He even had the video camera on to catch our responses. As a response to the magical question we were asked oh so many times, someoneELSE told him, striaght to his lens... " Actually, I support Warner Bros" o.O Imagine the hurt look that a puppy dog makes after its been kicked... And you'll know that SOMEONE would never make a face like that... The dog is just too cute.

So finally, we have reached our Final Destination. HONG KONG DISNEYLAND! So before we went to colelct our tickets, we decided to take a few pictures (and by few I actually mean CAM WHORE amount of pictures) with the beautiful fountain.

Amazingly enough, our dear fren someoneELSE, thought that this Mickey Mouse was actually ONLY supported by the jet of water. And boy was he impressed with their precision. (Goes to show all those years of school were for naught)

So after we finished playing around, we went to get the tickets. Unfortunately, SOMEONE did not know where to collect the tickets and made us walk in roughly a big circle that brought us nowhere and back again. Finallyy deciding to be a man and ask for directions, then and only then did they get their tickets.

So... We had time to kill, we just hung around, then lined up... AND FINALLY, the gates opened, and we were in...

Some Vids to Pass the Time

Bean Sprouts, Beef and Mice

Oh boy, after a hard night of playing racing and soccer up on the peak, no folks, we didn't use a real ball or real cars.... Yet. But I must tell you, that afternoon we spent on the peak was one of the best times of my life. Especially when we bought our China imported "Chips Ahoy" and ate it with our American imported "MacDonald's" hot chocolate... Ahh, that was possibly one of the best few minutes of our time on the peak...

Well, moving on so as not to disappoint, amazingly enough, or maybe not so, our good friend Daniel actually managed to wake up from the wake up call. He woke up and looked over at the fat glob in the bed across the room, which by the way was about 30 CM away, and woke it up.

Oh boy, fat blob Yeo, though miraculously managed to survived the freezing arctic winds, woke up to find out that the wind on the peak held no candle against the air-con in this lil' room that he shared with Tan... Boy it was FREEZING in that room, it was a wonder that the spit on the pillow hadn't already frozen over and given Yeo frostbite.

But it being a great new and DISNEYLAND going day, Yeo sprung out of bed like a joyful little girl, he did that quite alot actually, and banged the makeshift wall to wake the two on the other side and well folks, you don't wanna know what happens next, it ain't pretty, and lets say Tan swore off belly pork for the next few years
Ahhh, and so we proceed to have breakfast, and at Yeos insistence, we HAD to go and find porridge. No idea what that boy was thinking, we walked around forever, all the shops were closed and empty, but still our adventurers trudged on, and finally, there it was... BREAKFAST! Porridge, noodles and bean-sprout soy bean drink!
Ahh, silky smooth tender tasteless beef in a flavorful mixture of water and rice grains served with instant noodles stir-fried with supposedly oyster sauce and probably dark soy sauce as well, finished off with what Tan told us was suppsoed to be Soya Bean Drink, which strangely tasted alot more like bean sprouts. All for a measly HK28 folks, a fairly good deal for breakfast if I say so myself.

Well, with all but Yeo's tummys filled, off these adventurers went to the land of mice, ducks, dogs and fun! Oh no folks, I aint talking about chinatown, not yet anyway, its....

DISNEYLAND

If you can't already tell from ym childish persona, I absolutely LOVE disneyland, I sometimes wish I could stay there forever and become head mouse! But sadly, some dreams will never take flight... I guess I'll settle for Emperor of Serangoon

When we reached Sunny Bay station, and the mickey mouse train, you couldn't possibly imagine how humiliating it was standing on that platform with Yeo, with his incessant dancing and noise making, it was like being back in.... urgh... You know

He never stopped... Sad to say, his bouncy irritating fascination with mice was, at times, scary beyond reason... But we came to have fun, and by golyl, we'd have fun till our balls drop and our hair turns white

Well, I'd better sign off before you all either die from reading so much, or from the boring commentary that I'm currently providing, so keep coming back, if not for me, for everything else!

Freezing our asses off on the top of the world.

So Yes. Besides Paus and Siew Mais, we definitely had to have more to eat. Do not forget that our dear friend Yeo, was present. He would never allow himself to go without food. (What's new?!).

So we thought. And we thought. And we realised we didn't really need to think. That was because we already had our itineraries out!

Ah wells, so yes. We decided to go to our hotels first. Didn't make sense for us to drag our barang barang all over HK like vagabonds. Wouldn't wanna see our baggage climb up victoria peak either. We got a kinda of a we-expected-this-but-wait-it-happened-anyway kind of shock. The rooms were only the size of two yeos each. Yeo and Tan's was slightly bigger. It could fit two yeos and a Tan. Low and Pang's was right, just two yeos. Consider the fact that our luggages also needed a place to sleep.

Wading knee-deep in our agonies, we headed down to (or up, rather) to Victoria's peak on a back-breaking tram ride that went at 45 degrees. Before we could get on the Tram though, there was the ticket counter. And, before the ticket counter, there was Yeo. Yes! Yeo did something so retarded we would all have to change our names if we allow him to forget it. As were walking up to the counter to purchase our tickets, Yeo walked right into the top of the glass counter. We laughed our asses off. We came out with a few theories of how the hell that happened, and in the end, our favourite was Daniel's. According to him, Yeo was in love with the chick behind the counter, and, in his hurry to kiss her, he forgot that glass was invisible.

Man. We almost flipped. And so, on to the Tram ride. The view was a bit of a let-down. Wasn't as fantastic as they made it out to be. We learned something while waiting to get on and off the trams though. That is, that our government has been lying to us about the repercussions of kiasuism all this while. The truth is, the four of us were the biggest and most courteous gentlemen there (maybe some IOC dude noticed us and decided to award the Youth Olympics thing to us). We waited patiently for our turn, always avoiding the women and children as much as possible.

St Louis Marie de Montfort would have saluted us. That is, if he isn't already saluting everything that Simen is doing from his utopia opposite the school bookshop.

Anyway, we weren't planning to stick out like sore toes (cause ours were being threaded upon constantly, except yeo's though, his boots can survive a land mine blowing up), we decided from that moment on, to do things the Hongky way. Yes, that is, to push and shove without saying 'sorry' instead of singing One Republic's 'Stop and stare' all the time.

After waiting all eternity, hell froze over and the peak tram started functioning in the freezing conditions. We set up a defence perimeter around the tram door and marched in (The Peak Tram Occupation). We got our seats. Took some sad sad pictures and got our asses up that hill.
We arrived at the shopping mall on top of Victoria Peak before we could say 'Vic'.

We checked out the place. Was sort of like a Vivocity with damn good view but very little shops. The supermarket was something though. We danced around the alcohol section like kids in a candy store. In the end, we only got some caronas for our end-of-the-day party.

"Getting in some Game Time!"

We headed to Bubba Gump for dinner. It was committing the sin of gluttony damn close to heaven. Food was sinful. View was a double whopper.

Food Review by Yeo

Woah Baby, twas a good good dinner indeed! Why, it was worth every penny we spent there that night!

"Grilled Fish with Cajun Shrimp!"

Talk about good eating eh? Man, the chefs here are quite good at what they do, I'll give'em that much. The fish was grilled to perfection, crisp on the outside, yet still moist and juicy on the inside, the flavor of the cajun was light on the tongue, yet with the sauce, it became legendary! The mashed potato sides and veggies weren't anything fancy, but they were still good all the same

"BBQ ChiX n RibX"

Ahh, good ol' Pang, doesn't like shrimp, so he settled for good tastin Bar Be Que Meats, yum yum. Well, unfortunately, or not, both the meat seasonings tasted exactly the same! Both were smokey, tangy, sweet with that hint of ZiNG to give our taste buds a swift kick in its groin. The chicken leg was, how do I put this, a little on the dry side, but it being chicken leg, it was still tender and juicy enough. However, the ribs on the other hand... Oooo lala... Dry as a desert without an oasis... Thank goodness for the sauce, it redeemed this dish!

"See-Food in a Bucket"

They actually, LITERALLY, served this dish in a bucket. Oh yes, we ain't joking folks, Low had to eat this baby here out of a bucket. Well, the batter was good, I guess you could probably find it just about any where, but the seasoning was just right. Not too strong, not too light, almost perfect, but yet not there. The portioning was actually quite generous, at least until it came to the crayfish. They gave more crayfish shells then they did the meat!

"Crabby Prawns"

And finally, the last dish of the evening, Alaskan Crab Stuffed Prawns. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by this dish. When it came, I never expected it to come with both beautifully cooked buttered rice AND a garlic bread as long as my forearm! I tell you, if you are a sinful sinful eater, this dish would have been lovely for you. The food was literally swimming in delightfully flavored butter and melted cheddar cheese, oooooo I made this dish last, I never wanted to finish it. The prawns were lightly seasoned, I think with salt and pepper, and the crab meat stuffing.... It makes my mouth water just thinking of it again...

It was a dinner to be remembered folks, trust me

TideBoyZ

And so, we all rated the food there 4.5/5. Need we say more?

After dinner, we went up to the sky terrace. Damn good it was.

Now I know what Chad Kroger was talking about when he sung "I am so high, I can hear Heaven" in the song, "Hero".

The sky terrace was freezing though. All of us were screaming in agony except Yeo, who seemed to possess some mysterious internal warming technology that we didn't. We taught the tourist population some Hokkien and then ran off.

We headed down to the Temple street night market next. It was like your regular pasar-malam except that it had many stalls selling unmentionables.

Bored by it all, we bought some Liang teh (this became our customary drink for the next few evenings) and headed back to g'old Dorsett Seaview. Yawn.

We were going to have our Krispy Kremes and Carona party when we noticed that Tan had already fallen asleep. This was not at all scary at all though. It was the way through which this message was revealed to Pang and Low that terrified the lot.

When Low and Pang knocked on Tan and Yeo's door. It was opened by a half-naked yeo in a towel. Pang and Low swore off Pig trotters after that (sorry Yeo, it was a highlight of the first night).

Greatly disappointed, Pang and Low went back to their room without beeeerr in their belly. They did not, however, go back empty-handed. They both got off with a krispy kreme doughnut each. Haha!

And so, they slept. Or so they lied down. Until dawn descended upon them and the knocks on the false wall of Low and Pang's room woke them up to the second day.

Stay tuned to find out what happens next.

Low

Donuts, Drinks and Becoming a Man

So we landed in Hong Kong and as we stepped out of the plane, we suddenly realised, "This is it! We're on a holiday without parents! Woo!!!" The excitement was abit dulled due to the fact we spent 4 gruelling hours on our 3 small bony butts and one super humongous one, plus the fact that Yeo was trying to figure out where the heck to go next...

So we took the train from one end of the airport to the other (it was required, we didn't have a choice) and we waited patiently for our bags. After we collected our wonderful bags, and yeos horrendously huge BRIGHT green bag, we decided we were finally ready!

To go to the TOILET!

And so while Pang was doing his special number 2 (thats shitting, pooing, taking a dump. For all those who don't understand) Yeo decided he wanted to be a CAM WHORE and take nonsensical pictures, and so, this picture is called
" What we did when Pang was in the toilet"

And so, our real adventure into the heart of Hong Kong truly began when Pang finished his business in the toilet, hopefully he made enough money to support our trip single-handedly.

So, our first stop outside the arrival was, to Yeos utter horror, that idiot, was to go straight away to find "KRISPY KREMES" The world's tastiest donuts in Hong Kong! With Yeo grumbling that we should wait for the tour guide first, we covered our poor pain-stricken ears to the other end of the airport, and to our joy, we found it.... Dum Dum DUMMM

"DONUTS"

Yea so we bought two dozen donuts to eat in the hotel, thats a story for another time, and followed Yeo's whine all the way back to find our tour guide, only then did it stop (Thank Goodness)

As Yeo talked to the tour guide, we went off to get us ome Yummylicious, tasty MINERAL WATER, and I must say, it was some tasty water, some of the best I've ever had in my life! I think the brand was... erm I forgot OPPS, maybe later when I consult with the others I will know again.

But, it was at this point in time that we discovered, that,

BEER WAS JUST ONE FRICKIN DOLLAR PER FRICKIN BOTTLE MAN

Woah! It was like a dream come true....

Yea anyway, we walkted to the bus to go to our hotel, and Yeo, being the ignorant chinese Singaporean boy he is made a super fantabulous stupido mistake...

The Tour Guide, knowing we were Singaporeans, asked us in Chinese " Ni men you DANG BING le mah" Have you all gone through army yet?

What YEO heard was " Ni men you DA PIAN le mah" Have you all shat already?

So Yeo told him that we already did it inside the arrival area, the poor tour guide had ABSOLUTELY NO idea what was going on, and when Yeo finally realised his mistake, it was TOO LATE, we never let him forget it, and we never will!

So, the trip to the hotel wasn't that interesting, so theres nothing much to talk about there, but when we went exploring, we had our first taste of Hong Kong street food, Pao and fish siew mai

The Pao had a nice soft exterior, and when we bit into it, the char siew flavor burst into our mouths, giving us a wonderful first experience, the char siew was in small chunks, not minced too finely, slighty salty with a sweet finish, ohhh it was good... Also cos Yeo was hungry at that time

The siew mai was piping hot and on a stick, so naturally Yeo was the first to take it, they gave some sort of soy sauce with it, the saltiness complimenting the slightly fishy but tasty body of the siew mai.

Overall, for our first experience, we were not disappointed

Air-Plain Food

Hey Hey Hey! Whats going on everyone? This is it, this is

The Council's BLOG!!!

The much anticipated, never really got off the ground, FOOD BLOG! Yummy Yummy FOOD BLOG!

Well, four of us, Pang, Low Dan and Yeo, have just returned from our trip over the frigid northern seas to a little island where cantonese people reign supreme!

Yes, you've guessed it! We just got back from good ol' Honggggg Kong!

So, we left early early in the morning, when normal people should be sleeping and not lugging around humongous bags all over the airport, 4:50 to be exact, we reached CHANGI AIRPORT!

So there we were, checking in our bags and what nots, then we had to go in... Stupid American Airlines and their STRINGENT security checks... I guess we have to be grateful, at least out flight was terrorrist-free
Which brings me to my first food review on this blog...
AIRLINE FOOD!

So, this is us, before we lifted off from Singapore, Pang, Low and Dan have bought and eaten some Kueys and what nots from Bengawan Solo, but thats, not the food we are going to talk about!

The in-flight meal we had was....... Omelette with Chicken Sausage! Dum dum DUMMMMMM!!! Sorry, but there was no picture available as the cameramen were too famished to take any...

Yea, so.... The omelette, the main dish... Urgh, it was well cooked, I'll give it that much, but it was tasteless, it had no flavor at all! Well, maybe a little eggy flavor, but that was it... The sausage on the other hand, made up for it, it was flavorful and it went well with the bland omelette. Apart from the omelette we also had a chocolate pastry, that too was not bad. There was a fair amount of chocolate in comparison to the pastry

So concludes the first Food post on this Blog! Come back soon and hear us talk
